FEATURED WINES

Best red wine in Ontario under $15/bottle?

Barbecue season is coming, make sure you are well prepared. After tasting this wine again here in Toronto, we are quite convinced that this is the best wine currently available in Ontario for under $15/bottle. Not to mention the fact that it is organic/biodynamic, and is produced by one of the foremost winemakers in Alsace and the Rhone.
A word from Robert Parker on the 2007 vintage:
“Last year, after tasting the 2007 southern Rhônes, especially the top wines from Gigondas, Vacqueyras, Côtes du Rhône, and the most hallowed appellation of the south, Châteauneuf du Pape, I stated it was “the vintage of a lifetime.” I also suggested it was a hypothetical blend of a very hot yet opulent, powerful, sumptuous year such as 1990 and a cooler, drought and Mistral-affected vintage such as 2001. Tasting the 2007s out of bottle has confirmed my thoughts – this is a truly historic and profoundly great vintage.”– Robert Parker, Oct 2009

Barbabelle 2007

Unbeatable value
Widely considered one of the best deals in Ontario, it’s biodynamic and organic, extremely versatile, and absolutely delicious. The nose offers fragrant and complex aromas of dried red and dark fruits, earth, some spice, and a hint of vanilla. On the palate, it’s smooth and medium-bodied with well-integrated tannins, and a nice balance between power and elegance. Finishes dry with lingering red and dark fruit flavours. Definitely worth ordering a case or two!

Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2007

Beautiful old vine Châteauneuf
Kreydenweiss’ Single Vineyard Chateauneuf-du-Pape is 95% Grenache, the rest being Syrah, the wine is created from vines between 100 and 120 years-old. These ancient vines – biodynamically farmed – lie in the light, sandy soils in the heart of Courthezon, close to the source of Barrot’s 100 point “Pure” and the great Château Rayas. Luscious dark purple and intensely aromatic. Warm and voluptuous with great structure and a remarkable, wonderfully honed finish, this wine has the firm vibrancy that one only finds in these great old vine, sandy soil settings.
