DOMINIO ESPINALE SELECCIÓN BY BODEGAS CASTAÑO 2014

Some of the best value i have tasted out of Spain – Jonny Bick – Spanish Wine Expert – WineOnline.ca

Bottle Price : $12.95

Case Price : $155.40

Winery : Bodegas Castaño

Wine Region : Spain (Spain), Yecla (Spain)

Bottle Per Case : 12 x 750 ml

Food Pairing : Breads, Cured Meat, Hard Cheese, Red Meat, Roasted Vegetables

Deep, brilliant ruby red. Very aromatic with pleasant notes of ripe fruit with balsamic hints. Rich and balanced palate, smooth tannins with a touch of wood that doesn’t cover the fruit. Long finish.

It is hard to argue with the wine value’s coming out of the Yecla region of Spain. Frankly, i find it uncanny that wine this good can be made and sold for $12.95/bottle. My gut tells me that the limited amount of this wine we have will disappear very quickly. This is a wine worthy of a multiple case order.

Looking for the perfect crowd pleaser house wine to help you make it through the transition from Winter to Spring? Bodega Castano’s Dominio Espinale is perfect. We have not had wine from these guys in a long time. The last time it came in, the wine sold through in a matter of hours.

The Yecla region looks both rustic and magical. They have been producing wines here for a very long time and have some ancient vines. The Dominio Espinale Seleccion is a blend of Monastrell, (Mourvedre), Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. These blends typically deliver a ton of flavour, depth and structure and the prices are usually quite fair as the wines typically originate in the South of France, or Spain.

There was a time when blends were thought to be inferior wines, and few wines were marketed as blends. For example, almost all Bordeaux wine is blended and all of the 1st Growths certainly are, but they are not marked as such on the bottles.

If you are wondering how we continue to find the up and comer wine producers and especially those from Spain, it is due to the fact that we have legs on the ground over there. Jonny has been full time with WineOnline.ca for nearly a decade and has the job of being on top of the European wine trends before they make it over here to North America. I commend him on the work he has done and continues to do. It is wonderful to be able to represent such terrific wineries.

On that note, I will happily feature a couple more wonderful little treats from other producers in Spain. The 1st is the Carro from Barahonda. This wine is also from Yecla, and only slightly more expensive. Yeah, it’s back in Canada. I know some of you are waiting on it. Don’t worry, upon release, we will ship it out to you. Those of you savvy enough to read to the bottom here, can reserve your case as this wine always sells out crazy fast.

Looking for some more amazing value from Spain? We do our best to keep the Lopez de Haro Rioja Crianza in stock. We have finally reached the end of the 2010 vintage. When we first tasted this wine, we literally reserved everything we could, which was a lot. 72,000 bottles to be exact. Well, we are down to the last 100 cases. Hard to believe, but it is true. Don’t worry, the next vintage is just as good, but obviously, there is less age on it. Either way, should you want more 2010, now is the time.

Seems like Spring might not be as far off as we thought. Make sure you have the right wines to properly make the transition.

Have a great day!
