FEATURED WINES

Cali Cab Saturday. Sebastiani’s 2014 Sonoma County Cab. Waterstone’s Napa Cab and Ryder’s Monterey Cab.

There are times when nothing but a Cali Cab will do. Sebastiani is one of our favourites.

CABERNET SAUVIGNON SONOMA COUNTY BY SEBASTIANI 2014

Big, bold and beautiful….

Case Price : $419.40

The 2014 Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon is dark ruby in color and swarming with aromas of black cherry, cabernet-spice, and coconut/oak shadings. This wine has medium concentration and is filled with flavors of black and dark cherry fruit and mild vanilla. There is a persistent finish with cherry and herbal notes that intrigue. This Cabernet finishes with good acidity and mild tannins. Drink now or lay down to improve over the next 5 years.

Sebastiani 2014 Sonoma Cab

There is just something about California Cabernet. As a good friend of mine and wine aficionado likes to put it, “there are just so many pleasure points.” The truth is, he is right. From the time you pull the cork to the time the wine ends up in your stomach, you are going to experience at least 3, if not 5 or 6. Well-made Cali Cab such as the 3 we are featuring today has an alluring nose, is delicious from the tip of your tongue to the back of your palate and has a long finish.

Sebastiani’s first century in Sonoma winemaking began when Samuele emigrated from the Tuscany region of Italy in 1895 and started Sebastiani nine years later. A stonemason by trade, he quarry-mined the Sonoma hills for cobblestones that were used to build the streets of San Francisco. He worked long hours and saved carefully to buy land in Sonoma County, from which he would make wine for the Sonoma community and San Francisco’s restaurants. Sebastiani is a winery rich in history and tradition. Their name is synonymous with quality.

Waterstone 2013 Napa Cab

What happens when a California cult Cab producer has great juice that doesn’t go into the final blend? It gets snapped up by the savvy folks at Waterstone and sold at less than one-tenth the price of the original.

A collaboration between veteran winemaker Philip Zorn and longtime wine executive Brent Shortridge, Waterstone Winery was formed in 2000 when the two men were introduced and discovered a shared interest in creating luxury wines at affordable prices. Bringing together their previously established relationships with Napa Valley growers and vintners, the pair set out to develop balanced wines of varietal character through intelligent sourcing.

Ryder 2014 Central Coast Cab

“QUALITY IS NEVER AN ACCIDENT. IT IS ALWAYS THE RESULT OF INTELLIGENT EFFORT.”

—John Ruskin Artist, Writer, Philosopher (1819–1900)

This quote is on the home page of Scheid’s website. I think they have taken this to heart as this is exactly what they do.

3 beautiful representations from 3 of California’s most important wine regions. Pick the one that suits you best, or purchase all 3 and have wine around for the occasions you need it.

Have a super duper weekend!
