“Bright violet color. Complex, highly perfumed bouquet evokes ripe red berries, incense and Asian spices, with a suave floral overtone. Stains the palate with sweet, seamless raspberry liqueur and rose pastille flavors sharpened by a note of blood orange. Concentrated yet lithe, with smooth tannins sneaking in slowly to add grip to the wine’s vivacious fruit.” – Josh Raynolds, Vinous

FOR CLARITY, MOST OF THIS WINE WAS PURCHASED PRIOR TO ARRIVAL, SO ACT FAST IF YOU WANT SOME AS THE NEXT PO IS A LONG WAYS OFF.

Every once in a while when you try a wine, it is as if you are trying that wine for the 1st time. I had just such an experience with the Navaherreros last night. My wife had opened a bottle with some guests the other night and i pulled the cork to check on the shape of the wine. I could not have been more pleased with what i found. Perfect balance, great aromas and wow, the wine was tasting even better than what i remembered which was pretty darn good to begin with.

All the work at Bernabeleva is done with precision and care. It does not hurt that the terroir is just right for Garnacha, (Grenache), production. Dry hot days, and cool breezy nights. It is a lofty comparison, but this wine in particular reminded me of the style produced by Chateau Rayas. Yes, the wine is that good! A little bit about the winery philosophy and labels below.

In Bernabeleva, we work the vineyard with a respect for balance with nature. Eco labels are not our aim, although we work to be worthy of them.  The wines, produced from autochthonous varieties, show off differences in orientation, vegetation, altitude and soil of each locale.  In the winery, we attempt to maintain the virtues of the raw material we obtain from the vineyard.

Our wines express the characteristics of the vineyards and their surroundings, and our viticulture is in tune with its environment, for we understand it is the only way to work.

This is that delicate mineral spicy Garnacha that many try to produce and very few actually attain. If you can’t tell from my descriptions, i absolutely love this wine.

Looking for more really delicious Spanish wine that will make you sit up and get excited? Full disclosure, these wines are from the Canary Islands. The wines from Suertes de Marques are flat out amazing. The winery is located on Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands off the coast of West Africa. As you know, i often tend to get excited about wines from Volcanic soils and these wines are no different.

Tenerife is known internationally as the, Island of Eternal Spring. The island is on the same latitude as the Sahara Desert, but because of the tradewinds, the climate stays relatively cool and fresh, (perfect for making wine). Throw in volcanic soils and some winemaking know how, and presto, you have some world class wines on your hands. You can’t go wrong by owning a case of each of these wines.

Again, much of this wine was purchased prior to arrival, but there are some cases of the 7 Fuentes and the La Solana. Scroll down for the features.

It’s freezing cold out today and is supposed to be so for much of the rest of the week. Save yourself an errand, and let WineOnline.ca brave the cold and deliver awesome cases of wine right to your door.

Try not to lament the hour of sleep we lost last night and keep in mind that it is going to stay light an hour later in the evenings.

Have a relaxing Sunday!
