“The 2011 Biondi-Santi Brunello di Montalcino is a gorgeous wine made in a elegant, refined, traditional style. As this Brunello slowly unwinds, it eventually begins to show characteristics of cherries and mixed red wild berries followed by nuances of dried floral, minerals and mint. On the palate this is well-structured, impressing with its beautiful fine-grained, silky texture and remarkable finesse which follows through into the finish. The 2011 is an age-worthy Brunello which shows excellent potential for a long future, however today it is still quite reserved, and will demand at least another five years of bottle age.”

There is some Brunello that is very good, and then there is some Brunello that is superb. Every vintage of Biondi Santi i have ever tasted has been superb. We were in Montalcino last Wednesday tasting these wines. The 11 is outstanding, the 2012 is already amazing and is going to get better. If you purchase the 11, you are guaranteed to get the 2012. If you were not aware, 2012 is an epic Brunello vintage. After 2012, we will have to wait until 2015 to experience another vintage of this quality.

I am only going to harp on how great this wine is a little bit more. I am writing this email from the floor at Prowein. For those that do not know, Prowein is now the pre eminent wine show for people in the wine trade. Needless to say, we are trying a lot of wine and almost none of it comes anything close to the Brunello from Biondi Santi.

Alright, it is Sunday and i think it is only fair to give you a reprieve from going on and on about how great all the wines we are featuring are. We are however only featuring blockbusters today. Most of you know that want these wines already know how good they are.

We have Ogier’s very cool 6-pack of single vineyard Cote Rotie on the way. If you are a fan of Cote Rotie, this is one of the more interesting cases of wine you will ever purchase. We will be visiting with Stephane next week and will report back.

Well, since we are on a blockbuster kick today, we may as well put out there that we have 2 cases remaining of the 2010 Chateau Lagrange Saint Julien. Much like the Biondi Santi, this wine also received a 96 point score.

PLEASE SCROLL DOWN FOR THE FEATURES.

I am keeping this email short and sweet as i must join my colleagues on the floor at Prowein. We consider it our job to find you the best wines and there are more wineries in one place than we will see again until next Prowein.

Wishing everyone a relaxing Sunday!
