Sourced from the Pommard area. The wine is juicy with a great mouthfeel. It has a classic Bourgogne Rouge type of aromas, with a candied cherry character as well as strawberry, raspberry and spice, but the structure and the length of finish is more reminiscent of a Pommard, as it is ripe, rich with a bigger body.

We were just in Burgundy tasting the 2015’s. Make no mistake. Believe the hype! 2015 is an amazing vintage for both red and white wines in Burgundy. Yes, that includes Bourgogne and especially very well made, single vineyard Bourgogne from the likes of Chavy Chouet.

As i mentioned above, these wines are more like Village wines than Bourgogne. The “La Taupe” comes from inside the Pommard village from very old vines. The yield is low and the concentration is much more than you typically find in a Bourgogne. The 2015 is as good as you will find at this price.

The “Les Femelottes” comes from a vineyard right beside where Puligny Montrachet village officially starts. Though the monks that divided Burgundy were very good at determining where the best land was to grow the grapes, i often find it interesting that the wine made right beside a particular vineyard can be half or double the price depending on what the neighbouring vineyard is called. In this case, the wine is half the price of a well made bottle of Puligny, but you will find it tastes remarkably similar.

Well, i just can’t help but throw in the Sillery. The Sillery might be considered to be sacrilegious in Burgundy as it is a white wine produced from Pinot Noir grapes. The Sillery is one of the more requested white wines we get at WineOnline.ca, but we rarely get enough to do a full feature on it. Those who read this far, are rewarded.

Spring is just dying to make an appearance. Personally, i have started grilling. The thing with grilling is that it is just not the same without a great glass of wine at hand. Everything in todays email constitutes a great glass of wine.

Have a great day!
