Bright purple. Smoke-tinged scents of blueberry and candied flowers, along with a hint of liquorice in the background. Offers appealingly sweet dark berry flavors that are energized by firm acidity and a peppery flourish. The floral note returns on the lively finish, which is firmed by dusty, sneaky tannins.

I was up really early this morning. The moon was beautiful, the sky was blue, it was 15 degrees. All of this led me to believe that we are no longer waiting for Spring to arrive….. it is here, and not just according to the calendar. What does Spring mean to you? To me it means coming out of the darkness of Winter. Inevitably, there is a lot more hosting, a lot more BBQ’s, and a lot more trips to the cottage. I love all of this, but it can get very expensive as we never want to suggest that it is not OK to pull another cork from a bottle when hosting friends, colleagues and family.

This means it is important to have plenty of wine around from which you do not mind pulling some corks. Everyone has a different idea of what inexpensive wine should cost, but very few could argue that wine under $12/bottle is expensive. This is likely the last of this wine for a while, so you might want to buy a couple, or perhaps, a few cases. This wine is perfect for the cottage.

I know many of you are looking for some house white around this time of year, none of which is featured today. Click here to view a selection of white wines that provide some serious value.

If you are wondering how we continue to find the up and comer wine producers and especially those from Spain, it is due to the fact that we have legs on the ground over there. Jonny has been full time with WineOnline.ca for nearly a decade and has the job of being on top of the European wine trends before they make it over here to North America. I commend him on the work he has done and continues to do. It is wonderful to be able to represent such terrific wineries.

Want more really delicious wine at very approachable pricing? We are unable to match the $11.95 price tag, but we have plenty of treats under $15/bottle. The 2015 Tradition Cahors is a stellar wine. Clients seem to feel the same way. Please have a look at the recently posted client reviews. Click here to view them. Chateau de Gaudou’s 2015 Tradition Cahors might just be the ultimate BBQ wine.

Looking for some more amazing value from Spain? We do our best to keep the Lopez de Haro Rioja Crianza in stock. This is more of a finesse wine than either of the other features, so if you like something on the lighter side, this is the wine you want. With a 94 point review, it is hard to resist this tasty treat.

Spring is here. Let’s celebrate!
