The Esprit de Pavie is the 2nd wine of Chateau Pavie. At approximately a tenth of the price of their 1st wine, this will put a big smile on your face.

The nose is dominated by spice picked up after 15 months in old Monbousquet and Pavie barrels, as well as red raspberry and plum. The red and black fruit takes over on the palate, which is soft and fleshy. The finish is polished and elegant.

We have been waiting for the 2010 Esprit de Pavie to arrive for a long time. It is not released quite yet, but the wine is in Canada, and the release is imminent. Yes, we would all like to drink the Chateau Pavie, but at 10 times the price, not all of us can afford it. Not to mention the 2010 Esprit de Pavie is drinking very well now, so you don’t have to feel bad about pulling a few corks.

The Esprit de Pavie is a very elegant wine. A right bank Bordeaux blend of Merlot 65% with the rest made up of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. It is always nice when a wine comes in a wood case as it makes for a nice show piece. If you need to impress someone with your great taste, the 2010 Esprit de Pavie will certainly work well.

I know there are some of you that will ask; What about the 2010 Chateau Pavie St Emilion Grand Cru? It scored 100 points from Robert Parker and i want some. Well, we do have a dozen more bottles on reserve back in Bordeaux, so if you would like some, scroll down to the bottom. We asked the wine to be packed in 3-packs, and the winery graciously agreed, so it is available in 3-packs.

The Pape Clement and Chateau Pavie are reserved and waiting to be shipped from Bordeaux. The Esprit de Pavie is here in Canada and we expect release in the next week or 2. Don’t worry, there is no rush to drink any of these wines. The Pape Clement and Chateau Pavie will only improve over the next decade or 2 while the Esprit de Pavie will certainly drink well over the next 5 to 10 years.
