This wine comes from various estate vineyards all enjoying south or south-eastern exposures. 90% Sangiovese is blended with 5% Cabernet and 5% Merlot. Densely planted to 5600 plants per hectare, the vines grow in sandy limestone-rich soils. The grapes are macerated for over a week and vinified in steel or concrete vats. Deep red ruby with fresh fruit, mineral and floral aromas. Red berry fruits dominate the palate with well-integrated acidity and tannins. Beautifully balanced.

For those that do not already know, 2015 was a monumental vintage in much of Europe and having just been in Tuscany a couple of weeks ago and tasting every 2015 wine we could get our hands on, most definitely, in Tuscany. 2015 is one of those remarkable vintages, much like 2007, that will drink well young, but will age long and well. You are going to want to line your cellar walls with as much of this vintage as possible.

Badia di Morrona’s 2015 I Sodi di Paretaio is one of those Chianti’s that you will wish you had purchased more of. With lots of expressive fruit, this wine is opulent and rich, while maintaining a high degree of drinkability. There is more complexity and layers in this wine than you would expect from a wine with such an accessible price tag. This is a wine that is wonderful with traditional Italian fare including pizza and pasta, but is also beautiful with grilled meats and quite wonderful on its own.

The Badia di Morrona is located in the Pisan hills (Colline Pisane) between Pisa and Florence and is one of the four badie or monasteries founded by the count of Fucecchio. The monastery dates back to the 11th century when it was run by Benedictine monks and is now dedicated both to farming and viticulture. The estate represents the perfect marriage between tradition and modern technology in the production of its wines and olive oil.

The long weekend starts today. We should all get some much needed R and R. If R and R, includes shopping for some nice wines, you are in luck as we have plenty of super wines in stock now. I am including a couple of the client favourites below, but there are a whole host of other great wines to choose from on the website.

Love the Sillery? It is hard not to. This Pinot Noir Blanc always brings a smile to my lips. This wine tastes like Blanc de Noir Champagne without the bubble. Just like the Badia di Morrona Chianti, this wine has been a client favourite for years. It is rarely available and this is an absolutely perfect wine for the coming Spring and Summer.

How about some 2013 95 Point, gold medal winning Cahors from Chateau de Gaudou @ $24.95/bottle? I am pleasantly surprised that there is actually some stock remaining. That means a few of you astute readers can get yourself a case or 2. Though this wine will continue to cellar well, but it is starting to enter its perfect drinking window now. Just the right wine to serve at BBQ’s that will have your guests exclaiming what good taste you have in wine. An absolutely perfect match for a steak off the BBQ.

We would like you to know that we are always here to help. Whether you need some help choosing just the right wines, or have some special delivery instructions, we are always here to help and will do what we can to accommodate.

Have a relaxing long weekend!
