O ROSAL ALBARIÑO BY QUINTA DE COUSELO 2015
93 points / Best Buy – Peñín Guide to Spanish Wine 2017
Winery : Quinta de Couselo
Wine Region : Rias Baixas (Spain), Spain (Spain)
Bottle Per Case : 12 x 750 ml
Food Pairing : Breads, Cured Meat, Rich Fish, Soft Cheese, White Meat
With enticing stone fruit aromas of plum and peach, together with a touch of orange blossom and laurel, Rias Baixas ‘Quinta de Couselo’ O Rosal is wonderfully expressive and a delight to drink. On the palate it is refreshing with a crisp acidity and an underlying crushed oyster shell minerality that adds complexity to the ripe stone fruit character which continues to persist on the finish.
See those big trees in the background of the photo above, (the same as those that are pictured on the bottle of the O Rosal)? These are some of the oldest trees in Spain and are protected by the winery, the district and the country. In other words, as long as these trees are alive, they will grace this property. If you are wondering, they are close to 300 years old and are a type of pine tree.
Albarino vines in Spain are often grown as you see here, although it is pretty rare to see the stone pillars in the vineyard. This is one of the older Albarino vineyards as you can see by the width of the vine trunks. The O Rosal Albarino is the flagship wine of Quinta do Couselo. If you are BBQing fish, chicken, veggies, or even pork, this is a really nice match. Those of you that love Albarino, know that this is a unique flavour and not easy to duplicate.
Ahhh, the big, bold and beautiful Cab. We have offered Dowie Doole’s Estate Mclaren Vale Cab and it has sold out every time. A new PO of the 2014 is in stock, but this is likely the last of it. 94 Points, $24.95/bottle and really delicious. This is a crowd pleaser.
Rose, the elixir of Spring, Summer, and for those that love it, (me as an example), the rest of the year as well. Rose has started to come in to vogue as of late and is the hottest thing going in the a lot of the USA and Europe. The Cuvee Marie – Justine Rose from Baudry Dutour is a client favourite. This wine is produced from 100% Cabernet Franc grapes from the Loire valley. It is that perfect salmon colour that most of us look for in a Rose. Yes, another crowd pleaser.
The days are getting longer. This signifies more time sitting on the patio, typically enjoying wines with friends. Better ensure that you have the right wines kicking around. White, Rose and some delicious bold red. All are being featured today.
Enjoy this beautiful day!
