“(raised for seven months in neutral 225- and 500-liter oak barrels) Brilliant ruby-red. Perfumed aromas of fresh cherry and red berries, candied rose, licorice and smoky minerals. Juicy and seamless on the palate, offering bitter cherry and raspberry flavors that become sweeter as the wine opens up. Finishes on a suave floral note, displaying very good tenacity, delicate tannins and repeating red berry notes. There’s something Pinot Noir-like going on here that’s quite appealing.”

The Adras wines from Ribeira Sacra are just out of this world. Look at the picture above and it is easy to understand that this is some of the most interesting terroir anywhere in the world for wine production. It just does not come any more picturesque. The fact these vineyards are even here is amazing. It would be close to impossible to do these terraced vineyards today, but the Romans had their slaves build them 1000’s of years ago and we are still reaping the benefits today.

Whenever i see Ribeira Sacra available, i just have to buy it. The Adras, both red and white, is by far the best deal i have ever come across from this coveted appellation. The closest i have seen in price is 50% higher and most are more than double the price.

For the uninitiated, drinking red Ribeira Sacra is akin to drinking well made Burgundy. It has nice aging potential as well. I don’t have the experience with the Adras to tell you exactly how long, but i am guessing this will continue to improve over the next 3 – 5 years at a minimum.

Ribeira Sacra Blanco is like drinking a combination of Chablis, Sancerre and a Alsatian Riesling. There is complexity well beyond what you could ever expect at this price and i am blown away that Isaac is able to get this done.

We know everyone wants awesome Spanish wine at great prices, so i thought it would be nice to include the Vina de Moya Bierzo. The vines that the grapes come from to produce this wine are close to a century old. Bierzo is the only appellation i am aware of where you can get wine with near this much complexity at prices sooooo low. We never even got to do an email on this wine as it was mostly sold prior to arrival. What is left, is featured down below.

Wishing everyone a great weekend, and for goodness sakes, stay dry!
