“It’s a wine you can get lost in, that’s for sure. Raspberry, blackberry, tar, wild herbs, liquorice, spice and crushed rocks. It’s full bodied, but fresh and lively, with unrepentant minerality, slaty tannin, packed with juicy berries and ‘fruitiness’, though at no point does it feel simple or anything other than the product of a remarkable vineyard. The length, in particular, is superb. This is exciting.”
Clos Mogador is as exciting as the terroir from which it comes. There is no doubt that Priorat is some of the most exciting and beautiful terroir there is anywhere in the world. The vineyards are extremely steep, the terroir, so full of mineral, the temperature swings between night and day can be monumental. What does this mean for you? It means, if you know your producers, you can get some of the best wine the world has to offer. Clos Mogador is as iconic as it gets in Priorat. As always, our allocation is teeny tiny, so please reserve the bottles you would like sooner than later.
You can always tell a great winemaker by how excited they get about the wines that make. Rene Barbier exudes quiet confidence, but when he starts to speak about the Clos Mogador, you can see just how excited he gets about the wines. Rene has some of the best terroir in Priorat and the vines are in their prime. THIS IS VERY BEAUTIFUL WINE THAT IS ONLY GOING TO GET BETTER WITH AGE.
CURIOUS ABOUT TRYING SOME OF THE BEST ROSE IN THE WORLD?
Domaine la Suffrene’s Bandol Rose is quite simply, out of this world. Many people believe, and perhaps rightly so, that Provence produces the best Rose there is to be had anywhere. Well, if you are looking for the best Rose from Provence, most people will direct you to Bandol after which they will direct you to Domaine La Suffrene. Most winemakers i know in France have a case of Suffrene’s Bandol Rose kicking around to drink over the summer. In other words, those in the know, ensure they have a bottle in the fridge at all times.
We have just had some Ryder Merlot come in. I am slightly hesitant to put this in an email during the week as most of this wine was sold pre arrival, (as per usual), and this wine tends to sell so quickly, that i do not want to disappoint a bunch of folks. Either way, those that read this far down, get rewarded with a case. Yes, we do have more on the way, so don’t fret.
As usual with iconic wines, it is all about the terroir. If you are wondering about exactly what terroir is, i encourage you to watch our Wine University Video down below. There is some important little tidbits of knowledge being passed down from some iconic winemakers. For those that love wine and knowledge, this is good information to have.
Wishing everyone an extremely enjoyable and relaxing Sunday..
