Lemon-yellow, with greenish reflexes in the colour. On the nose, delicate and refreshing, pleasant and with typical aromas of almonds, meadow flowers with hints of pears and red apples. On the palate, dry, but also aromatic, medium body with a significant aromatic background. Almonds and pears appear in the final, especially when aged.
As i am sure you all know by now, i love white wine. If i had to make a choice between white wine and red wine, it would almost certainly be white wine for me. Today, we have some of the best white that Italy has to offer.
The Collio region of Friulano is some of the best terroir anywhere in the world when it comes to the production of white wines. What makes this such great terroir? Most would say that the most important factor is the almost continuous breeze off the Adriatic ensuring minimal mould problems. The gentle slopes, ample mineral in the soil, warm days, cool nights and a host of other factors help to ensure that these wines are produced in the optimal conditions.
There is a lot of really great white wine produced in Italy. To have yours named the best by the most prestigious wine publication in Italy, is quite an honour. Schiopetto is one of the most respected wineries in the region to begin with. The 2014 Friulano is right there with the best wines they have ever produced.
FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT WANT TO BE TRULY ARMED WITH AMAZING, SCROLL DOWN.
The official start of Summer is this week. Yes, it has been warm and wonderful outside for the last weeks, but that does not mean we should not work very hard to ensure that we are extremely well prepared for the approaching lazy hazy days of Summer.
When talking about amazing Italian white wine, I can’t help but include Gini’s single vineyard Soave La Frosca. This is one of the few white’s to come out of Italy that can match up to the Schiopetta’s Friulano when it comes to style, grace, and agability. The 2014 Gini La Frosca has the depth and the power to make you say, WOW.
We know that no Summer afternoon can be complete without a glass of Rose. If you are going to drink Rose, why not drink some of the best in the world. Domaine la Suffrene’s 2016 Bandol Rose is sublime. We have not wanted to do a full feature on this wine as, frankly, we did not want it to sell out. Therefore, we are only letting you die hards that read the whole email know about it. Maybe, this way, it will last through the Summer.
All these wines are seriously terroir driven. If you are curious about terroir, have a gander at the video below as we like to think we, and some of the world’s top winemakers have done a good job explaining it.
Have a great weekend everyone!
