“Comes from El Molar, and it’s at 310 m with schist soils. 14.5% alcohol. Warm, sweet, spicy, herbal berry fruits nose. Warm, spicy and a bit peppery with warmth and ripeness but also dusty, spicy detail. Grippy and structured but shows restraint. Fresh acidity on the finish. A really distinctive wine that tastes Mediterranean.”

Vintae’s Garnacha Fosca del Priorat has everything going for it. Bursting with fruit, plenty of minerality, a fabulous nose, a finish that goes on and on, all while maintaining the appropriate amount of freshness and acidity. Even the label is awesome. Somehow, Vintae has managed to keep the price under $25/bottle, which seems to be a very rare feat in Priorat these days.

It is hard to argue that Priorat is not some of the most amazing terroir there is anywhere. Just look at the picture above. These wines, much like their terroir tend to be rugged, yet refined.

The LCBO strike is looming larger and larger each and every day. We are now less than 6 days from the strike deadline which is scheduled for 12:01AM on June 26th. Nobody knows if there will be a resolution prior to drop dead date, and if there is no resolution, how long the strike will last. Don’t leave yourself be wineless during these all important summer months. Now is the time to stock up.

Now, back to the wines. I always find it interesting that once a region becomes popular, the prices in that given region tend to skyrocket. In some regions, this is a supply and demand issue, but in areas like Priorat, where there is plenty of wine, it seems to me, in some cases, this is just plain gouging. It has become difficult to find Priorat under $25/bottle. Not only is the Proyecto Priorat under $25, but it is great!

I will not go on a diatribe about how great the Lopez de Haro wines are. Those of you that have tried the wines already know. Those that haven’t tried them should make a point of doing so. The 2016 Lopez Blanco was just released, so no customer reviews as of yet, but i can assure you, this is a wine that blows away everything else around this price point.
