The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin: tart red berried fruit, laced with tobacco and dried herbs on the dry, crisp finish. This is a superb classical Rioja Crianza and a stunning value.

We are dismayed about the possibility of a strike at the LCBO. There couldn’t be a worse time than right before the Canada Day weekend and the all important months where us Canadians actually get to enjoy the weather. Going through this time without the wines we love seems unfair and something none of us want to face. We hope that the LCBO will keep their warehouses open, and we will be able to conduct business as usual, but this can not be guaranteed. There is something about the Lopez de Haro wines that makes them appealing to the masses. People go through case after case in vintage after vintage. I constantly have friends and clients telling me that the Lopez de Haro Rioja Crianza and Blanco for that matter is the best deal they have ever found for a wine. The quality is remarkably consistent from vintage to vintage and the wine, (like most Rioja), ages extremely well.

If you plan to host a lot over the Summer and want to serve something really good while not breaking the bank, the Lopez de Haro wines are the perfect solutions. Whether you are hosting at home, or at the cottage, wine seems to disappear a lot faster during the summer than during the winter. Maybe this is due to the fact that it stays lighter longer, maybe this is due to the fact that it is mostly warmer outside. Either way, it is nice to know you are serving your guests something delicious while not destroying your budget.

Ahh, amazing value from Spain seems to be the name of the game today. I can’t help but let people know about the Ribeira Sacra Adras from Isaac Fernandez. This is undoubtedly the very best deal from the region. Spicy and delicious, Isaac Fernandez’s quality to price ratio is through the roof. A new PO just landed, but this wine does to go really fast. There is a high degree of drinkability while maintaining plenty of spice and complexity.
