Vibrant and vivid, with layers of spicy blackcurrant leaf, intense red fruit and heady, warm herb aromas. Plenty of bright blackcurrant and blackberry fill the palate. threaded with rich fruitcake and herb hints and laced by soft, succulent tannins.

After years of requests from clients, we finally have some wine from South Africa, and boy is it good. If you have a look at the picture of the terroir above, you can imagine how great the wines. The Babel Red is as good a wine as you will find at this price. When we tasted this wine for the 1st time, then heard the price, we knew this was a no brainer. We love this wine!!!

The Babel is the wine for the hedonist in all of us. Tons of fruit, tons of depth, plenty of structure. If this wine was from California, it would cost double or triple the price.

Don’t forget, vintage wine from the Southern hemisphere always has 6 more months of age on it than that from the Northern hemisphere. This is because their grape harvest is in March and April rather than in September and October. The Babel is drinking extremely well today and will drink well for the coming 5 – 10 years.

There was a time when blends were thought to be inferior wines, and few wines were marketed as blends. For example, almost all Bordeaux wine is blended and all of the 1st Growths certainly are, but they are not marked as such on the bottles. The Babel Red is a perfect example of just how good a blend can be.

Since we are on a kick of just how great hedonistic blended reds can be, i thought it would only be prudent to feature more wines along the same lines. Colombina’s 2012 Palpito Super Tuscan should not be missed while the Vintae’s Priorat is one of the best values from the region.

All 3 of today’s featured wines deliver a whole lot more value than is typically expected from a wine under $25/bottle. These wines will blow the mind of the wine novice and satisfy the oenophile that typically spends much more than $25/bottle.

As always, we are here to help. Should you need any help or advice with your wine life, please feel free to reach out.

The long weeked is almost here. Have a great day!
