“Stephan commented that he did everything he could to maintain freshness in his 2015 whites, and he’s done a fabulous job with both Condrieu releases. The 2015 Condrieu La Combe de Malleval comes from two separate parcels and offers a textbook array of apricot, flower oil, crushed rocks and sappy flowers, with building depth and richness on the palate. It’s a gorgeous Condrieu that will be even better this time next year and drink well for 4-5 years at a minimum.”
Do you love amazing white wine? Condrieu is one of those appellations that makes the hairs on your neck stand up. Stephane Ogier just happens to be one of the best producers there is in the Northern Rhone. Condrieu is a tiny little appellation resulting in tiny little allocations for us. This wine will be sold, 1st come, 1st served.
Whenever we go to the Rhone, we are always excited and grateful when we get a chance to spend some time visiting with Stephane. Stephane, (pictured above), is one of the most charismatic and interesting winemakers there is. Every time we visit, i leave even more impressed. This is a man that is dedicated to producing amazing wines.
FOR THOSE THAT DON’T KNOW, 2015 WAS A SPECTACULAR VINTAGE IN THE NORTHERN RHONE.
Do you love Syrah from the Northern Rhone? We certainly do. The Syrah d’Ogier is Stephane’s entry level wine that tastes anything but entry level. The spice and flowers that come from this wine do not taste entry level in any way. This is a great match with lamb chops off the BBQ.
Last, but certainly not least, the 2000 Charles de Sarpe was just released. When we tasted this wine, we knew we had to figure out how to get some in to the market. Somehow, we managed to convince our friends at Clos de Sarpe to give us a small allocation. The 2000 Charles de Sarpe is what perfectly aged Bordeaux is supposed to taste like.
It’s Canada’s 150th Birthday today! Make the best of it. Drink some great wine. Here’s to the next 150……
Have a great day!
