1. Cartagena Sauvignon Blanc by Viña Casa Marín 2018

This Sauvignon Blanc is crazy…for a few reasons:

It’s made by a true cold climate vineyard in Lo Abarca, San Antonio, Chile of which  its climate conditions result in vines that are able to produce a superior quality of fruit. 

It’s from one of Chile’s most awarded wineries. From the beginning, Viña Casa Marín set out to make one of the world’s best cool climate wines, thanks to the unique terroir qualities and the climatic conditions in Lo Abarca (San Antonio Valley)

If you are looking for something crisp, refreshing and inexpensive that maintains beautiful fruit… This is it.

2. Mas de la Source Sauvignon Blanc by Domaine Robert Vic 2017

A softer sauvignon blanc, showing the influence of the warmer south of France. Green apple, citrus and tropical fruit aromas and flavours. Good, but not overpowering finish with softer acid profile and a clean finish.

3. Colles Sauvignon Blanc by Weingut Gross 2015

Let’s call a spade a spade. We’re suckers for a crisp, fresh white wine. Gross makes nothing but interesting and complex white wines. Colles Sauvignon Blanc by Weingut Gross Vintage 2015, has been the critics favourite for years simply because their wines are remarkable when they are young, but even more interesting with some age on them as well.

It’s nice to know the critics agree. 97 points is a high score for a Sauv Blanc from anywhere in the world.

Last year, we took the time to go out and visit the Gross brothers at their winery. Sometimes, to gain a better understanding of a wine, you need to meet the people behind it and get a sense of the land where the grapes grow. In this case, both were spectacular and these wines were simply amazing. The winemaking Gross brothers are 100% dedicated to producing wines that are out of this world. Gross Winery’s terroir straddles the borders of Slovenia and Austria. One brother works the Slovenian vineyards, while the other works the Austrian side. The Colles is from the Slovenian side.

4. Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough by Churton 2017

Churton makes the wines that will make you fall in love with New Zealand wines all over again.

It is often the case that when grapes are grown on stunningly beautiful terroir, the wines tend to work out really well. Churton definitely has some of the world’s most stunning terroir.

Churton produces their wines biodynamically and the results are special. The combination of new world fruit with old world know how makes for some amazing drinking.

Some of the most sought after Sauv Blanc in the world is produced biodynamically by producers such as Alphonse Mellot in the Loire Valley.

The most sought after, and certainly the most expensive Pinot Noir in the world is produced biodynamically by producers such as Domaine Romanee Conti and Leroy in Burgundy. These producers have been using this methodology for generations and the results are consistently stunning wines, (just like Churton).

The Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough by Churton 2017 is a show stopper.

It’s no shock to us that it scored 95 points two vintages in a row!!

5. Saint-Bris by Domaine de Mauperthuis 2017

This is an amazing discovery that will not soon be forgotten. Sauv Blanc from Chablis. This is the ultimate in refreshing, yet food friendly wine.

We were in Chablis, and one of our restaurant owner friends says, “Do you want to try something really cool?” Of course you have to respond with a yes. This is coming from a restaurant owner that runs one of our favourite restaurants in the world. It is on the river in Chablis called “Au fil du zinc” which is inside Hotel du Vieux Moulin and quite simply, has one of the greatest menus and wine lists of any restaurant we have ever dined at.

That’s not to say that it would be to everyone’s style. Japanese and French fusion, with a wine list stacked to the hilt with some of the world’s greatest whites, including a ton of Chablis from the world’s most notable producers.

6. Sancerre Origine by Matthias et Emile Roblin 2017

The last but not the least, a Heartstopping Sancerre by Loire Valley Masters.

In the historic, if not mythical, Loire Valley in the appellation of Sancerre, lies the winemaking talents of Matthias et Emile Roblin (Domaine Roblin) where harvest workers comb through the vine rows, hawk-eyed, searching for select berries from each cluster of sauv blanc grapes. Of the prized few that are chosen, their ultra-concentrated juice is gently extracted and sent into barrel for undisturbed maturation.

This wine has a spectacular palate which is concentrated with citrus and mineral substance. Lime and fresh pea flavours are pure and fresh.
