LIMITED: Kistler’s Russian River Pinot Noir

Russian River Pinot Noir by Kistler Winery 2018

California’s Russian River Valley Pinot Noir by family-owned Kistler Winery nothing short of breathtaking, with aromatic intensity and textural sophistication.

Kistler’s Russian River Pinot Noir reaffirms our faith in the future of Californian Pinot.

This wine is nothing short of breathtaking!

Perhaps it’s no surprise it’s made from the legendary vines that Steve Kistler planted in the late ’80’s. He carried these these plantings back from the great grand crus of Burgundy and they revolutionized California Pinot Noir.

They were instrumental in winemakers in the Russian River valley being able to showcase the rich intensity that the terroir provides, with spellbinding acidity and elegance. Ultimately, this wine is a shining example of carefully farmed Russian River Pinot Noir being able to rival the best Pinot from anywhere in the world.

“If the Kistler Winery could be magically transported to the middle of Burgundy’s Cote d’Or, it would quickly gain a reputation as glorious as any producer of Burgundy grand crus.” – Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

Kistler’s Pinot is enthralling in its youth, but it’s ability to age sets it apart from the rest. Ironically their ability to age has to do with the fact that they do almost nothing to the grapes once in the winery, allowing the free run juice to be vinified without any additions – and allowing the terroir to come to the forefront. Having opened an outstanding bottle of 2005 over the holidays, we can assure you that these are some of California’s greatest Pinot Noirs in their youth, and some of the worlds greatest wines with age.

Kistler Vineyards: Producer of Russian River Pinot Noir

Kistler Vineyards is a small, family owned and operated winery in the Russian River Valley specializing in the production of Burgundian-styled Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The vineyard sources for the wines stretch from western Sonoma county, some five miles from the Pacific to Carneros, just north of San Francisco Bay. The vineyards are meticulously farmed, in order to produce wines of intense focus, and natural balance.

Kistler Pinot Noir is fermented in small open top fermenters and the free run juice is barrel aged and remains in barrel for fourteen to eighteen months until bottling.

Wine Characteristics

Marked by high-toned red fruit aromas of cranberry, currant and wild strawberry, this multi-dimensional Pinot from Russian River shows all of the complexity in its array of baking spice, clove and purple flowers and a classic but subtle hint of cola. Dry with a refreshing acidity, the palate is defined by its high-toned fruit and spice box complexity that continues through the finish.
