The Other Burgundy: Willamette Valley Pinot Noir Delivers!

Pinot Noir Stags Hollow Creek by Pearce Predhomme 2018

Pinot Noir Stags Hollow Creek by Pearce Predhomme 2018 hammers home our claim that Oregon produces the best-value Pinot Noirs in the world.

Oregon Pinot Noir isn’t some new, novel thing, the variety was brought to the area in the 60’s. What’s new and novel is how good Oregon Pinot Noir has become—or, perhaps, how wine lovers have finally noticed how good Oregon Pinot Noir is.

Oregon has had plenty in common with Burgundy. The midpoint of the Willamette Valley lies at 45 degrees north latitude, the same as for Burgundy’s Cote d’Or. Oregon wineries have typically been small, family-owned affairs, just like in Burgundy.

Oregon produces the best-value Pinot Noirs in the world!

Reflective of the volcanic nature of the soil, a consitent, warm and dry 2018 vintage, the Pearce Predhomme Stags Hallow Creek truly expresses its place. Renown wine critic, James Suckling praised the 2018 vintage in Willamette Valley for its balance of freshness and complexity. Red cherries & raspberries on the nose, very floral – dried violets. Underlying hint of sous-bois. Firm yet delicate tannins. Extremely refined & perfumed, this is the most delicate Pinot Noir expression to date from Pearce Predhomme.

When it comes to value-for-dollar, no Pinot Noir growing zone in the world can match Oregon’s Willamette Valley

Pinot Noir Stags Hollow Creek: Characteristics

This 2018 Pinot Noir shows a deep plum colour with bright ruby red edges in the glass. Aromas & essences of dark cherry, strawberry, cinnamon, clove, fresh herbs & anise all leap from the glass. This vintage is forward and focused to say the least. The mouthfeel shows pure savoury red fruit flavours with bright acids, soft tannins and a fine balance between power and elegance. It’s lip smacking delicious on entry and comes together with a generous long & structured finish.

It is one of the few reds that pairs well with either a delicate, poached salmon or a rich, braised chicken.
