Pleasure-Packed 1er Cru Champagne

Champagne Cuvee Alexandre 1er Cru by Soutiran

Champagne Cuvee Alexandre 1er Cru by Soutiran shows a magical combination of generosity and intense, mineral-etched focus. It’s driven by Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from Montagne de Reims. There’s depth and drive to spare here, for those who love a ‘gastronomic’ style of Champagne. We can’t recommend it highly enough.

Valérie and Patrick are the third generation of the family domaine that produces clear, full, intense and elegant Champagnes of really excellent quality.”

Champagne Soutiran: Domaine

Champagne Soutiran is a family owned domaine where Patrick and Valerie Renaux cultivate 8 hectares of vineyards dedicated to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Ambonnay is considered the best terroir in Champagne for the Pinot Noir grape, as its vineyards are predominantly south-facing and thus uniquely capable of ripening the variety in Champagne’s cold, “marginal” climate.

A bottle of Champagne Soutiran Premier Cru Alexandra sits off to the right, with a wine glass half full of it in the centre. In the foreground are a stack of fresh, unshucked oysters atop a wooden board. In the background, already shucked oysters sit atop a stack of white dinner plates with lettuce and lemon.

Among more than 320 villages making up the Champagne appellation, only 17 are entitled to the “Grand Cru” designation. These exceptional terroirs cover barely 12% of the total production area, which makes them rare.

Located in the heart of the Montagne de Reims, the village of Ambonnay benefits from this prestigious distinction. The grapes that grow there enjoy a great reputation and are very popular with trading houses.

Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are planted on slopes facing south, south-east guaranteeing very good sunshine.

Champagne Cuvee Alexandre 1er Cru by Soutiran: Characteristics

Light yellow-gold in colour. The bouquet shows ripe pear and tangerine on the fragrant, mineral-accented nose. Silky and expansive, offering juicy citrus fruit and strawberry flavours and a hint of poached pear on the palate. Fruit-driven and extremely easy to drink, finishing with very good vibrancy and subtle toastiness.
