POUILLY-FUME BY FLORIAN MOLLET-DOMAINE ROC DE L’ABBAYE 2018
Pouilly-Fume by Florian Mollet is one of my favourite Sauvignon Blancs that we sell from anywhere in the world. Each time it rocks up, I am like a kid on Christmas morning tearing open the box to get at this inspired vinous gift. This truly is a quintessential expression of the Sauvignon Blanc grape – lip-smacking bright citrus fruit flavours of lemon, lime and grapefruit, all framed by a distinct note of prototypical Loire Valley smokiness.
It’s easy to forget that Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc is more than just Sancerre. The Loire is a long river (France’s longest, actually) and an incredibly diverse wine region, with many intriguing nooks and crannies for Sauvignon Blanc along its winding route. So, if you’re in the mood to learn something new and drink extremely well while doing so, check out this exceptional Sauvignon Blanc from the Pouilly-Fumé appellation.
This fabled region may be known for its fairy-tale-like architecture, French Gothic and Renaissance styled chateaus built as follies, fortifications, hunting lodges —but it’s also a historic region of wines. The Mollet family is one of the oldest winegrowers in the Loire Valley with more than 10 generations of farmers.
If you are a fan of great Sancerre, this Sauvignon Blanc from Florian Mollet is well-worth the trip across the river to Pouilly-Fumé.

POUILLY-FUME BY FLORIAN MOLLET – A LITTLE HISTORY
The winery is located in St. Satur, adjacent to ‘Clos du Roc’ vineyard (white, yellow, blue and black flint), which was owned by the Abbey of St Satur from 1450-1750 AD. The Mollet family has managed the estate since 1850, and it’s been in the Mollet family ever since. In 2000, the eldest son in the family, Florian, took over the estate with the determination to become one of the finest Domaines in the area. The estate has 11.5 hectares including the famous Clos du Roc de l’Abbaye vineyard in Sancerre.
