This Super Tuscan has become one of the more “super values” to come out of Tuscany today. It delivers the kind of swoon-worthy Super Tuscan experience that few can match to it’s price to quality ratio. TASTING NOTE / Erik Banti is known as the pioneer of Morellino de Scansano.  He has been producing wines in the Maremma Toscana region in the south-west of Tuscany for decades.  With a love and passion for native Italian and classic French grapes he has created his Spineto, a blend of Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.  The 2 French varieties are aged for 6 months in barriques, while the Sangiovese matures exclusively in steel.  The result is a round, smooth red with strong territorial characteristics with the charm and finesse of international blends.

A LITTLE HISTORY

Aside from being a visionary, Erik has had a number of careers. Before he discovered his true passion he was a race-car driver and also a golfer, at one time attaining Italian golf championships. Today he is recognized for being counted amongst the forefathers of the Maremma winemaking region. An appellation that was created in part through the vision and persistence of this man…Erik Banti.

Tuscan wines can be really expensive, big and complex, but some winemakers have developed a technique of producing a simple, yet delicious, every day wine. Spineto, Maremma Toscana, is the perfect drinking wine, that needs no special occasion.

The truth is, you can pair just about anything with this wine. What I love most about Italian wines is how well they pair with almost any food. This wine is incredibly versatile and drinkable.
