BURGUNDIAN SAUVIGNON BLANC

SAINT-BRIS SAUVIGNON 2020 BY PASCAL BOUCHARD

It’s really exciting for us to be able to do our part in spreading the word about wines like Saint-Bris Sauvignon 2020 and small, under-the-radar producers like Domaine Pascal Bouchard. This estate produces the kind of wine that makes you revisit your Burgundy map anew, to see what you’ve been missing.

Domaine Pascal Bouchard has been producing wines in Chablis, the northernmost part of Burgundy for generations. Today’s Sauvignon Blanc hails from the little sub-region of Saint-Bris, which is about 10 km southwest from the centre of Chablis. This is the only Burgundian appellation where Sauvignon Blanc is grown – and geographically, points to regions of the Loire Valley (looking at you, Sancerre) where prestigious Sauvignon Blanc is more prevalent.

This lesser-known Saint-Bris (even among Burgundy aficionados) feels tailor-made for WineOnline—one sip of today’s pure, mineral-driven, substantial Sauvignon Blanc and you’ll see why Domaine Pascal Bouchard is a talent to watch. You really can’t ask for a more complete Sauvignon Blanc at this quality-to-price ratio: It’s got breadth on the palate, alluring aromatics, and slap-in-the-face freshness that can be either enjoyed now or after having aged a few years too.

This wine calls for oysters and all kinds of fish! It’s also a wonderful choice with herb-driven sauces over chicken and Thai dishes with tons of lemon-grass, and fresh feta or goat cheese.

TASTING NOTE / Pascal Bouchard’s 2020 Saint-Bris Sauvignon is fresh and lively on the nose featuring pleasing scents of citrus fruit.
