ARCUDI ‘TERRAMAGRA’ NAPA CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2019

Arcudi ‘Terramagra’ Napa Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 is one of those Cabernet powerhouses aimed at devotees of Napa Valley’s most hedonistic and coveted luxury labels. Still, I’d wager that even the most hardcore, finger-on-the-pulse collector won’t know this label. They will, however, be deeply familiar with this winemaker’s other projects. Tony Arcudi is the winemaker at Kapcsàndy, having crafted 4 perfect 100 point wines in a row, and in his spare time he makes the Fantesca wines with none other than the first lady of wine, Heidi Barrett. Everything this superstar touches turns to gold. Instead of paying $700-$1200 plus for his other projects, today we are offering the wines closest to his heart, his garagiste personal project made at Fantesca and comes from some of the most iconic fruit in all of Napa.

It would be tone-deaf of me to call these wines “cheap,” but I have no qualms saying that these wines are a steal. My best explanation as to why, is that if Lou Kapcsàndy, the owners of Fantesca, and Heidi Barrett (the First Lady of wine in Napa) trust Tony Arcudi to make perfect wines, there is no surer bet. Right now, in this moment, most Cabernets as luxurious and critically acclaimed as Arcudi’s wines are coming in at three times the price, but there’s something even more important going on here: today I am offering six vintages of ready to drink wines including the iconic 2014, 2016 and 2018.

The shocker here though is the ‘entry level’ Cabernet from Arcudi. While a non-disclosure agreement prevents the exact vineyard and winery source for this wine – and that’s a good thing or else the wine would cost three to ten times as much – what I can tell you is that this wine is a blend of three iconic single vineyard sites which he may or may not make elsewhere. The value here is shocking, don’t just trust me, trust Antonio Galloni.

TASTING NOTE / I was especially impressed with Tony Arcudi’s wines this year. Arcudi has the magic touch when it comes to finding that elusive balance at Stagecoach where the tannins are tamed and the wines retain energy. Arcudi’s new Terramagra Cabernet is a great choice for readers on a budget. It is a blend from a number of top sites that can’t be disclosed, but that are about as good as it gets. The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Terramagra is a new, value-priced wine from Tony Arcudi. The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Terramagra is a new, value-priced wine from Tony Arcudi. A vibrant, mid-weight Cabernet, the 2019 possesses terrific energy and freshness. Blue/purplish fruit, lavender, spice, menthol and licorice. Fresh floral accents lift the finish. The 2019 is an absolute steal. Don’t miss it.
