ITALIAN PINOT NOIR PERFECTION

PINOT NERO OLTREPO PAVESE DOC 2021 BY CARILLO

Many would argue that outside of Burgundy, the North of Italy (along with Oregon) is home to the terroir best suited for the production of delicious and expressive Pinot Noir.

The tiny sub-region of “Oltrepo Pavese” is situated in Lombardy and is one of Italy’s best-kept secrets. Many connoisseurs don’t even know about it. Very few people are aware of just how great the wines from this part of the world can be.

Pinot Nero Oltrepo Pavese Doc 2021 is quite versatile and easy drinking. It pairs with everything and is a bona-fide crowd pleaser.

Whether looking at this wine as a lover of all things Italian, or a committed Pinotphile (or both!) this wine is a must-have. This bottling perfectly balances plump Italian rusticity with Pinot’s more delicate structure and adds a friendly price-tag for the win. Carillo is my go-to bottle to bring to dinner parties. Being a lighter style of red, Pinot Nero Oltrepo Pavese Doc 2021 is quite versatile and easy drinking. It pairs with everything and is a bona-fide crowd pleaser. The perfect red for a rapturous evening with the gang!

A LITTLE HISTORY

Located 100km south of Milan, this area produces primarily Pinot Nero (aka Pinot Noir). The Oltrepò is often overlooked by tourists and wine lovers in favour of more famous locations like Tuscany and – as a result – is quietly beautiful, remarkably authentic, and thankfully untouched.

“Frecciarossa” is located amidst some of the prettiest wine landscape anywhere in the world. Much of Lombardy’s wine country is breathtaking. They are one of the greatest and oldest producers in Northern Italy, tracing its roots back to the 18th century.
