“Light red fruit notes come through on the savoury nose, with a real freshness to it. Soft tannins and a savoury freshness are also present on the palate, balanced by the fruit on the finish.”

As we all know by now, not all wines from a given appellation are created equal. Valpolicella, much like Soave, has gotten a bad rap as producers have tried to produce this wine as cheaply as possible with no regard for the perception of the appellation. La Collina dei Ciliegi is making flat out awesome Valpolicella. This is right there with the best Valpol i have ever tasted.

Ciliegi’s Valpolicella is the ultimate pasta, or pizza wine. If the pizza or pasta is gourmet, (like the pizza we had last night), all the better. The perfect compliment to a pasta with a tomato or meat sauce. As i mentioned in the opener, most of this wine was purchased pre arrival, so snap up a case or 2 before it is all gone.

I also mentioned above, that much Valpolicella, Soave has gotten a bad rap, mostly because the appellation was expanded and people are not aware of the differences between Soave and Soave Classico, and even more so, the single vineyard appellations of Soave Classico. Many consider Gini the best Soave producer there is. I would be in that camp. It is indisputable that he definitely owns a good percentage of the best terroir. If you want some extraordinary white wine kicking around, Gini’s Soave Classico, or La Frosca might just blow your mind, (and that of your guests). Very few people have ever tasted Soave this good. The La Frosca is featured below, click here, to go directly to Gini’s Soave Classico page.

Want some amazing Etna Rosso? Tenuta de Fessina’s Etna Erse is produced from a blend of Nerello Cappucio and Nerello Mascalese. The wine is spectacular, and available in 6-packs. Again, there is not a lot remaining, so don’t miss out.

We are on the last day of a long weekend. I am sure most of us went through more wine than was planned. I know i definitely did. Time to restock? Order soon to ensure delivery prior to next weekend.

Have a great day!
