FEATURED WINES

Sillery Oltrepo Pavese is in Stock. Pinot Noir Blanc From the Masters at Frecciarosa. $18.95/Bottle. Client Favourite. Antico Colle Chianti Too.

The Sillery drinks far north of its rather modest price point. Depth, minerality and flavour to spare.

SILLERY OLTREPÒ PAVESE BY FRECCIAROSSA 2015

“Tastes like Blanc de Noir Champagne without the bubbles.”

Case Price : $227.40

Wine Region : Italy (Italy), Lombardy (Italy)

Bottle Per Case : 12 x 750 ml

This extraordinary and elegant white is made from hand picked Pinot Nero grapes vinified as a white wine by removing the dark skins, in a similar fashion to the production of Champagne from red Pinot Noir grapes. It is richly intense, well balanced with elegance and powerful fruit finishing long and complex backed by firm acidity.

Up here in the Northwest corner of Italy where the mountains are high, the terroir contains plenty of mineral, the days are warm and the nights are cool, grows the best Pinot Noir in all of Italy. The Sillery has been one of our favourites, and client favourites, since the 1st time the wine came in about a decade back. This is a wonderful wine for Summer and will match beautifully with food as well as drinking very well on its own.

Many would argue that outside of Burgundy, the North of Italy, along with Oregon show the most potential for the production of delicious Pinot Noir. Oltrepo Pavese is quite famous for its Pinot Noir Blanc. For clarity, stock is extremely limited as much of this wine was sold pre arrival.

Sillery is Pinot Noir Blanc. This basically means that this is white wine produced from red grapes. The only place where this is common is in Champagne. With that said, the Sillery literally tastes like Blanc de Noir Champagne without the bubbles. Yes, it is refined and extremely drinkable, and not to mention, absolutely delicious. If you love white wine, this is something you absolutely need  a case of.

MORE AWESOME LITTLE TREATS BELOW INCLUDING CHIANTI FROM ANTICO COLLE AND SICILIAN NERO DAVOLA FROM PURATO.

On that note, I will happily feature a couple more wonderful little treats from other producers in Italy. The 1st is Antico Colle’s 2015 Chianti and the 2nd being a Sicilian Nero Davola from Purato.

2015 was a great vintage through much of Italy and certainly in Tuscany. Antico Colle’s Chianti is juicy and delicious and a couple of steps beyond what you would expect from an entry level Chianti. At $16.95/bottle, this wine is a steal.

Ahh, Sicilian wines. I never understand how they get sooo much freshness in to the bottle when it is so darn hot. I guess it has something do with their 1000’s of years of winemaking experience. Either way, the Sicilians in general typically do a great job and at $14.95/bottle the Purato is a huge crowd pleaser and owning a case will only make you a happier person.

We made it to July, make sure you have the right wines for maximum enjoyment.

Have a great day!
