Colombina rocks. It’s hard to decide which wine to buy. Likely both. Wonderful values from Montalcino.

“This red combines power and elegance, with bright acidity and dense tannins. Cherry and plum fruit are accented by leather, tobacco and mineral as this glides to a lingering conclusion. Shows fine balance, with a tealike finish. Best from 2020 through 2035.”

Finding great value in places like Montalcino is not necessarily an easy task. I love Colombina’s philosophy which is to make great wines and charge a fair price for them. Most Brunello of this quality is priced $15 – $20/bottle higher. Colombina’s 2012 Brunello di Montalcino is only going to improve over the next decade or so.

As you likely know, we consider it our job to seek out and taste as much wine as possible in order to bring you wines that will make that little wine lover inside you rejoice. It’s really nice when our wineries make it super easy for us by producing wines that are as good, or better, than much of the competition. Awesome pricing only helps the situation. Colombina’s 2012 Palpito is produced with 40% Sangiovese, 30% Merlot and 30% Cabernet. This wine is in its drinking wheelhouse now and is the perfect wine to have around while you are waiting for your Brunello to mature. This is the ultimate crowd pleaser. Tons of fruit, tertiary flavours coming out, with plenty of structure remaining. This wine will go fast.

The all important summer season is here. The Canada Day long weekend is coming. Cottagers are throwing parties. Great wines are being consumed everywhere you look. It is hard to decide what the right wine to feature is. Well, i can’t help but love the Bandol Rose from Domaine La Suffrene. Anyone that loves Rose absolutely must own a case of this. We have not done a full feature on it yet as i do not want it to run out, but you die hards that read the whole emails should certainly be made aware of it. This is the best Rose i have tasted this year.

This is where i cut the email short as i am quite sure most of you just want to get your work done so you can figure out your plans for the weekend. Well, you can’t go wrong with any of these wines, and if your wallet permits, i might try to purchase all 3.

Happy Wednesday everyone. The weekend is almost here.
