Each winery in Niagara has a unique atmosphere, its own winemaker and beautifully crafted wines that embody “terroir;” wine speak that simply means that the wine reflects the soils and conditions in which the grapes have been grown.

We chose 3 wineries to discover for this unique tour.

1. Redstone Winery

While the winemaking follows the tradition of excellence established at Tawse, the terroir shines through the Redstone estate wines which are bold and full of character.

The 38-acre estate vineyard, farmed organically and biodynamically, is perfect for maturing late-ripening varietals including Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. There is also Pinot Gris on the property. Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, and Chardonnay from recently acquired Limestone vineyard will round out the estate portfolio.

2.Vineland Estates Winery

Vineland Estates Winery produces 50,000 cases of wine annually, the majority of which is made from estate grown fruit. Many of our varietal wines are labeled under the Niagara Escarpment sub-appellation. Although their Rieslings are consistently rated amongst the best in Ontario, we are also known for our focus on premium Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Franc, and for our signature Meritage which is produced in only the best years as the pinnacle of their red wine portfolio. Their wine portfolio is reflective of the cool climate varietals most suitable to Niagara and offers a variety of price points.

And their restaurant is gorgeous! As one of Niagara’s first winery restaurants and a forerunner of Niagara’s flourishing wine and culinary scene, they offer cuisine featuring ingredients from local purveyors prepared by an internationally trained team of chefs led by Executive Chef Justin Downes.

Guests dine indoors in the renovated 1845 farmhouse or outdoors under the shade sails. Wherever you are seated, you will take in the views of rolling vineyards, the forests of the Niagara Escarpment and Lake Ontario and Toronto in the distance…
