The Name to Know in Bordeaux Blanc

Premier Cuvee Blaye Cotes de Bordeaux Blanc by Château Haut Grelot 2019

Premier Cuvee Blaye Cotes de Bordeaux Blanc is made with sauvignon blanc grapes. This is a classic stunning Bordeaux Blanc. And at a low price!

No dinner is complete without a glass of white wine to get things started off on the right foot. This is the style of wine we’d pair with simple, barely seasoned ingredients such as raw and lightly cooked shellfish like oysters and shell-on prawns, fresh crab and simply grilled fish such as sea bass. A match made in heaven.

If you’re a lover of Bordeaux Blanc, Chateau Haut Grelot’s Bordeaux Blanc will make the perfect house white.

We’re always on the lookout for over-performing wines like Château Haut Grelot’s “Premier Cuvee” from Blaye Cotes de Bordeaux. This is a textbook example of why it pays to do your geography homework. With sandy-gravelly soils bordering the Gironde, and sand-clay-silt further inland, Haut Grelot benefits from an ideal microclimate. And they’ve been at it for 100 years!

If you’re a lover of Bordeaux Blanc, Chateau Haut Grelot’s Bordeaux Blanc will make the perfect house white. This bottle continues to stand out as one of the best quality to price ratio whites we found from Bordeaux.

Premier Cuvee Blaye Cotes de Bordeaux Blanc: Characteristics

Pale straw-yellow in colour, elegant and crisp with intense exotic fruit aromas. Grapefruit, gooseberry and wild herbs intermingle on the nose with ample citrus fruit on the palate. This wine has a generous weight, round and in perfect balance. This wine is perfect to drink by itself or pair it with seafood, chicken, fresh salads and/or cheeses.

This is 90% sauvignon blanc. It has a lifted nose of celery, lemon-lime, wax and dried flowers. It is medium-full bodied, quite smooth and warm with lively acidity. There is some fruit richness here. Excellent length. It shows far more depth and vivacity than I expect from Bordeaux blanc at this price point.

This wine is perfect to drink by itself or pair it with seafood, chicken, fresh salads and/or cheeses.
