Cristia’s Ventoux has quietly become a client favourite here at WineOnline.ca. Not that all the wines from Cristia are not well loved, but the Ventoux has become one of those wines that sells out on offer each and every time we do an offer.
WineOnline.ca has been working with the Grangeon Family, (owners of Domaine de Cristia), for over a decade. They are serious about producing the best quality they can in any appellation in which they work. From Chateauneuf to the Cotes du Rhone, Ventoux and others, the wines always exceed my expectations. See a couple of notes from critics below.
“If you haven’t figured it out yet, this is one of the up-and coming new superstar producers in Chateauneuf du Pape thanks to the inspired efforts of proprietors Alain and Baptiste Grangeon. The style here seems to be a synthesis of old-line tradition with their emphasis on ancient Grenache vines and a healthy respect for modernist techniques.”
– Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
“Domaine de Cristia has come on like gangbusters over the last decade, since proprietors Baptiste Grangeon took over from his father in 1999…. This superb Chateauneuf du Pape producer also fashions tasty Cotes du Rhones and Cotes du Rhone-Villages meant to be consumed during their first few years of life.” – Robert Parker
Looking for some more Southern Rhone deliciousness? It just so happens that we have a bunch of wonderful little treats that are about to arrive including the Plan Pegau and Domaine de Dionysus’ Cotes du Rhone Village Cairanne.
A little note on the Plan Pegau. For those that did not know, this used to be a negociant wine, meaning that the grapes were purchased rather than grown on the Domaine. I am happy to inform you that all grapes used in the production of the Plan Pegau are now from the Domaine. The price has gone up slightly, but the Plan Pegau is still an unbelievable value.
Yeah, Dionysus’ Cairanne delivers plenty of punch at this very small price tag. Tasted blind, you could easily confuse this with a much more expensive Chateauneuf du Pape or Gigondas. I always find it interesting that wines in neighbouring appellations can be priced so far apart. If you pay attention, you can find some great bargains.
Wishing everyone a great day!
