FEATURED WINES

Up To 97 Points, (Spectator and Enthusiast). Cavallotto’s 2010 Vigna San Giuseppe and Vignolo. 2012 Bricco Boschis. Stunning Baroli!

There is no denying that Cavallotto produces some of the best Barolo there is. 10 and 12 were both superb vintages.

“Earthy aromas of underbrush, truffle, wild berry, blue flower and a whiff of new leather emerge on this stunning wine. The succulent, full-bodied palate shows ripe raspberry, black cherry, licorice, clove and grilled herb alongside firm but velvety tannins.”

For those of us lucky enough to have visited Piemonte at some time in our lives, you will be aware that the wine country in Piemonte is some of the most stunning anywhere in the world. Cavallotto just happens to own some of the most stunningly beautiful vineyards. Not only are the vineyards beautiful, but many would suggest that these are the best vineyards in the world for wine production.

It is hard to argue with the idea that some of the world’s best wines come from the Piemonte and are produced with the Nebbiolo grape. These are some of the longest lived wines and have as much, or more, depth and complexity than wines from anywhere in the world. There is no argument that Cavallotto is one of the very best producers in Piemonte.

SCROLL DOWN FOR THE 2010 RISERVA’S

Patience will be rewarded with these wines. Barolo is always released with at least a little age on it and Cavallotto leaves the wines a little longer than most before release, (especially the Riserva’s). These wines are so good now, it is hard to imagine they will be getting better, but my experience tells me that these wines are in their infancy and will only improve over the coming decades and the Riserva’s in particular will be some of the longer lived wines from anywhere.

For greater clarity, the 2012 is in stock, and the 2010 Riserva’s are pre arrival. You can’t go wrong here. If you are OK with the price tag, you should consider owning all 3.

In every vintage in recent memory, Cavallotto has produced some of the best wines to come out of Piemonte. 10 and 12 are no exception. If you have the means, i would highly suggest you purchase as much as possible. Line the cellar walls as each and every bottle that you pull a cork from will be spectacular. You really do not want to miss these experiences.

If you are wondering what is best to serve with a Barolo, my preference is always lamb. As far as food combinations go, this is one of my favourites. The flavours of the Barolo tend to bring out the wonderful flavours of the lamb, and vice versa. Also, a pasta with a simple meat sauce can be close to perfection with these wines.

We do have more wine in stock from Piemonte. Should you want some Dolcetto, Barbera, or Barolo from another producer, just click here to view all the Piemontese wines we have available. Should you wish to search wines from other regions, click here to choose.
