Lemon-yellow, with greenish reflexes in the colour. On the nose, delicate and refreshing, pleasant and with typical aromas of almonds, meadow flowers with hints of pears and red apples. On the palate, dry, but also aromatic, medium body with a significant aromatic background. Almonds and pears appear in the final, especially when aged.

We begged and pleaded and we received the last cases they had at the winery and we were thrilled. We know some of you pre ordered this wine, and you will be happy to know, it is now released. There is less available than i would like, so if you would like some, please place your order in a timely manner.

I am going to have a hard time not getting giddy about these wines. The season only helps with this excitement. As i am sure you all know by now, i love white wine. If i had to make a choice between white wine and red wine, it would almost certainly be white wine for me. Today, we have some of the best white that the world has to offer.

The Collio region of Friulano is some of the best terroir anywhere for producing white wines. What makes this such great terroir? Well, the slopes are gentle, there is plenty of mineral in the soil, days are warm, nights are cool and there is an almost continuous breeze off the Adriatic ensuring minimal mould problems.

Let’s be really clear about this. There is a lot of superb white wine produced in Italy. To have yours named the best by the most prestigious wine publication in Italy, is quite an honour. Schiopetto is one of the most respected wineries in the region to begin with. This is right there with the best wines they have ever produced.

If you are wondering how we continue to find the up and comer wine producers and especially those in Europe, it is due to the fact that we have legs on the ground over there. Jonny has been full time with WineOnline.ca for nearly a decade and has the job of being on top of the European wine trends before they make it over here to North America. Bouchard’s 2014 Vieilles Vignes Chablis was just released. It is always hard to resist Chablis and there are still some cases of Casal de Arman’s Ribeiro Blanco. The Ribeiro is one of my personal favourites.
