SPOTTSWOODE ESTATE CABERNET – A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN

ESTATE CABERNET SAUVIGNON NAPA VALLEY 2019 BY SPOTTSWOODE

There is a short list of Napa Valley producers that can be called truly iconic. Spottswoode is one of those names; its history is inextricably linked to the story of the Valley, and perhaps its that longevity that explains this wine’s still-reasonable price. We really can’t overstate this, Napa wines of such historic importance and consistent excellence usually cost much – much more – so when ESTATE CABERNET SAUVIGNON NAPA VALLEY 2019 came our way, we couldn’t stop talking about what an amazing “get” it is. Spottswoode Estate Cabernets earn massive critical scores and huge demand, with price tags to match!

Hailing from blue-chip terroir, an ancient vineyard from the prestigious sub district of St. Helena (at the foot of the Mayacamas mountain range in Napa valley), this iconic bottling continues to define what great Napa Cabernet is all about. Spottswoode’s Cabernets have outperformed most classified growth Bordeaux, and pulverized the vast majority of its Napa valley competition for decades delivering some of the most profound drinking experiences time and time again.

Spottswoode Cabernets are in a league of their own, this 2019 Estate Cabernet not only scored 100 Points, but has now scored 100 points on six vintages since 2009!

This wine represents one of the most tangible and thrilling links to Napa Cabernet’s “glory days” of the 70s and ’80s. You can blink and spend three times as much on Napa Cabernets that won’t come close to Spottswoode’s precision, power and refinement.

While I can assure you these wines are built to last, the 2019 won’t make you wait—it is already showing all its colours in spectacular fashion. It will shake you to your core!

TASTING NOTE / “The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of 89.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6.5% Cabernet Franc and 4.0% Petit Verdot. Deep garnet-purple in color, it needs of lot of swirling to unlock the most gorgeous perfume of bright black and red cherries, fresh blueberries and blackcurrant pastilles with hints of roses, cinnamon stick and orange peel. Medium-bodied, elegant and tightly wound, the palate shimmers with SO MUCH energy, featuring layer upon layer of floral, savory and crunchy black fruit notes, finishing long and minerally. This is a remarkably poised, seemingly effortless beauty that cannot fail to make your jaw drop. Forget it in the cellar for a good 3-5 years, at least, to allow all those nuances to fully emerge and then savor it over the next 30 years+.”
